As my NS chapter is drawing near to a close, I need to start planning my life ahead of me. Knowing for the fact that I couldnt get into a local university, I need to give my double best to reach my goals. And the industry that I'm passionate in is none but a competitive one.

I'm still seeking options and my fickle-mindedness is having a hard time evaluating which would be the best choice to choose. It's not helping at all. UWA or UniSIM, or even NIE? It's all so hard to choose. Afterall, these decisions might make or break my career. It's a whole life ahead of me.

I did find myself falter throughout these 2 years. I became lazy, unmotivated and plain dejected. I need that spark, need that fire again to ignite my drive to do great things. And what better time to do it than now? I've got family, great friends and an awesome supporter - most of all, I still have that wee bit of youth in me to fight - why not now?

I'm going to do great things. Just watch me.

Rarely do I have the time to spend quality time with friends. I just did so Saturday.

Was out with Nic, Minswan & Derek! Had a great laugh at their weird, crazy antics and just totally enjoying myself with them around. Minswan really knows my humour points and she just set me on a laughing frenzy. Gosh!

Wreaked havoc at Tampines IKEA, had super tasty meatballsss then off to Esplanade to snap fireworks. Then Starbucks @ One Fullerton where I laughed my ass off!

和慕尧到了莱佛士坊的一间澳洲餐馆吃比较奢华的美食，Maureen也刚好在那边上班，所以索性就在那儿用餐并且向她敲诈要折扣! 哈哈!

拍了几张不错的照片，也多亏有了慕尧的指教，了解了更多有关摄影的技巧。慕尧可是个摄影大师哦! 他对好多事务的知识都了如指掌! 佩服!

在短短的4个月内，我已厌倦了Panasonic Lumix LX3。原因是因为我无法从普通的Point & Shoot相机中，找到灵感并拍摄出我要的照片。也只好想尽办法筹钱买一架Canon EOS 550D了。但是，和Panasonic Lumix LX3在一起的时光是愉快的，也拍了好多很好看的照片。现在他的新主人是一位来自香港的爸爸，希望他能拍出更好的照片。

这架Canon EOS 550D可说是我最满意的相机，要好好照顾他。也希望能和他走个2，3年的路。刚买的Canon EF 50mm f1.8是我最最最喜欢的镜头 - 拍出来的照片好有feel哦!

都说了，我是个迎新弃旧的家伙。在刚换相机之前，我才刚把我的书桌给换掉。到了宜家构想新的房间摆设及家具。花了差不多$500，把我和我哥的书桌都给换掉。现在，我的房间超简洁美观！

看看吧！刚用我的新相机拍了我的新书桌，然后再加点字幕 - 整个系列的照片简直就像宜家的家具杂志嘛！都说了，好的相机 - 照片更好看！慢慢欣赏啦！

It's been a busy week, shuttling back and forth IKEA four times (!!) just to get my room done! Cant wait to show you guys how awesome my work area looks! (although its being shared by me and my bro)

Also, I'm so torn apart over which PC should I get? Mac or Windows (self assembled @ SLS). Mac is damn overpriced but aesthetics wise is just orgasmic!! Windows is practical and pwns Mac over its functionality. DAMN, TOUGH CHOICE!

GE2011 was exciting and pretty much unforgettable.

Worker's Party breakthrough of 1 GRC in Aljunied and 1 SMC in Hougang. 7 political parties to contest in all GRCs and SMCs except for Tanjong Pagar GRC (which was a walkover). Young and capable candidates surfacing from all political parties (Nicole Seah, Vincent Wijeysingha). Both Mr and Mrs Chiam lost in their respective wards. Most competitive General Elections since independence and worst national average votes (60.1%) for PAP since independence. And lots more other figures...

This GE saw me getting heated in debates and engaging discussions with my family, especially my father. I'd like to imagine, in my father's shoes - to see your own children grow from apathetic, ignorant kids to matured, thinking adults. I think this GE bonded my father and I even more.

Feels great to exercise my voting rights, for the first time in my life. I feel strongly like a Singaporean. It is moments like this when you're making important decisions that shapes the nation, should you feel like a true Singaporean.

What a great political awakening. This is definitely not the end. Singapore has a long way to go towards political maturity..

Cowardice

Is it just about the fear of drowning in the water or watching a horror movie? People often label 'cowardice' as something so critically minor that they themselves forget that cowardice is also the fear of making change. That word extends to a bigger capacity than just the fear of doing something minor.

Sure you can be the most fearless dude. 150km/h on the streets and nothing stops you, or bungee jumping from afew thousand metres high - courage is your call. But when it comes to making change, you shun from it without hesitance. Granted that humans are afraid to adapt to changes, but isnt that fear a sign of a cowardly act?

When we're contented with what we have, we tell ourselves to be happy about it and avoid any unwanted changes. We shut our ears to new ideas and steer clear away from making any breakthroughs with uncertainties. Unless the change will bring upon personal benefits, otherwise most people will just hide under one corner, content with the constant and avoiding any risks.

This is affecting the younger generations. That very same mindset that the older generations influenced the younger ones. And this might very well carry on, circling in a vicious cycle. It is definitely saddening to see young, bright minds being shadowed by cowardice and selfishness when clearly, they have a choice to make change. That change might not directly benefit one, but it will (hopefully) benefit the entire community.

Change might not be an entirely bad idea. Step out of your comfort zone.

Xmas was great. No photos taken though. Airforce boys dont really have camera phones. Meh. Dinner at a Korean Restaurant called Sarang @ Orchard Central. Got a nice view there and ambience was great :) Food wise was kinda average. Movie was Little Fockers. Supper at Rochor Beancurd.

Had a small gathering with my sec sch clique. Grew apart, but bond is still there. I just wonder how long that bond can hold us together. 10 years? But its just great to have someone to confide to. We literally talked for the whole night, like 9 hrs?

Last few days of 2010: Absolutely lost.

As tangled as my emotions are recently, I managed to take a breather as I head out for movies. Yeah 2 movies back to back this weekend. I must say it does make my wallet shrink, but who cares! I'm gonna do things that makes me happy from now on.

For those who knows me well, I'm pretty sure that you know that I'm not a fan of horror/thriller/gore films and a sucker for romance/comedy/animations. So here goes!

Saturday was Easy A starring Emma Stone. Caught this after having a coffee with K at Clarke Quay Starbucks. Then a dinner at Mr Curry's.

Movie's nice. Hilarious. 3 and half popcorns over 5.

Sunday was rather impromptu. Was browsing through timeslots and there happened to be perfect couple seats for Rapunzel 3D. Heck. It's gonna be my first 3D movie experience anyway. Watched it with Iv.

Fantastic adaptation by Disney. They gave a modern twist to the lines and a really brand new take on the story. Flynn Rider is drop dead charming and so does Rapunzel herself! Seriously, how can animated characters look so real? In fact I'm having a crush right now!

I think 3D for animations is pretty much useless. Yes it gives you the added "feel" to the show but doesnt really do much and you can do without the 3D effects. Not worth the money.

Romantic, touching and hilarious too! 4 popcorns over 5.

Dont know why. Have been nervous about university admissions. Everybody tells me I should be able to get in, but somehow I couldnt! It's February next year but I'm already feeling nervous now! What if I couldnt get in? *choy*

I dont know how I should start off this blog entry. For my life in the past few months, havent been at all exciting. I guess that's how NS killed your social life, or life as a whole.

I've been gaming, and heavily obsessed with it. I'd reckon that its a superb way to make me stay at home and 宅. I can save money at the same time anyway. I ended up online shopping instead. FML.

I wanna turn my life right back around. I hope I can. Cause there's 10 more months of rotting my life away in NS, after which, I gotta get my feet standing firm to face the challenges of this society again.

As usual, loneliness did creep up on me. To the extent that while I was celebrating friend's birthday downtown, I would sit at one corner and think of things which really makes me emotional within seconds. Gah, superficial issues again.

I called J up. And J gave me the best consolation I've had in a long while.

Christmas is almost here. Yet another festive season to remind you that being single sucks.

I needa muthafucking prove them wrong.

第21年了。生日快乐。
今年的生日 - 心情很复杂。感慨万端。
很平淡。很空虚。

但是，还是很感激。
至少在乎我的人，还真的在乎我。
虽然不多，但几个就够了。

这20年来。。
我很努力。很努力地做个模型。一个能被大众接受的模型。做到连我自己是谁都不知道。也很努力地把自己的缺点改掉，但是我还有很多缺点还没改。我忽略身旁的小细节，小事物。忽略了很多很多人的感受。忽略了我的家人，特别是爸妈。

爱情。。
是奢侈品。我想短期内，我不会去追求它。因为追到累了。我想很难能找到一个不注重外表只看内心的人了。感情，很耗体力，很费神。我很懒惰，不想去追求爱情的滋润。毕竟，会来的始终会来。强求没有用的。

朋友。。
来的来，去的去。没有一个定点。我很惭愧得说，到现在还没有找到人生中的best friend. 可能永远都不会找到，但是要告诉我自己的是 - tone down一点，outgoing一点，应该不难交到更多朋友吧。

事业。。
我希望我是努力的。因为，我一直想尽办法报进大学。遗憾的，还没有一间政府大学肯收留我。竞争，外来人才，成绩，都是我在求学道路上的绊脚石。我会尽力，但是也要命运给我多点机会。

家庭。。
我想，我们一家四口一直有存在着一些问题。但是，个性的不合，想法的不同，懒得去解决问题的心态，一直在阻止一家人前进。没办法，只有包容了。我想孝顺父母是我的首要任务。但是在我有稳定收入之前，我能做的不多。

人生。。
无常。我想这是我今年学到最宝贵的一课。在短短的几秒之内，你现有的一切可能都会化为乌有。要珍惜现状，把一切做到最好，才不会有任何遗憾。

未来的十年。。
做一个称职的学生，员工，孩子。努力，求上进，孝顺的人。要对得起自己。做自己，有自信，最重要的 - 要勇敢。

十年后，让我看看我是否又空口说白话了。

最近回味了好多首好歌。听着听着，好想活在歌词当中，和歌曲再活过一次。有些感伤，有些优美，有些痛彻心扉。《发如雪》、《眼泪成诗》、《东风破》，都有非常有意境的歌词。

但是，在这里想分享的歌词是近期浪花兄弟的歌《想你就写信》，由方文山作词，周杰伦作曲。好久没有一首能让我红着眼眶跟着唱的歌了。

I've always been obsessed about the media industry. Whether is it TV or radio, press or social media - I would hope to part of it since young and would love to know how it works and so on. I believe it is an exciting industry albeit a very competitive one.

One event that totally shaped or rather, changed the local TV media scene is the start of SPH Mediaworks. It gave viewers in Singapore another option, a refreshing take and a creative one, on watching TV. It broke boundaries between TV and the viewers and brought them closer to each other.

SPH Mediaworks bagged 48 awards during its early years.

Traditional TV operators like MediaCorp even lost its footing in the market at one point as the new choice was so welcomed by the public. Being a beginner back then, SPH Mediaworks started without much. Yet, with that little resources, it worked with it and fully utilize what was given. SPH Mediaworks even bagged the Broadcaster of the Year award during 2002's Asian TV Awards.

I know this is such an overdue topic to be blogging about. But this morning, after watching some clips about SPH Mediaworks back then, I decided to blog about this to remember what changed the game for local TV at that point of time.

It's a pity that, back then, I wasnt really matured enough to know about the rules of this competition - between TV stations. All I know is - when the media merger happens - I was totally shocked and kept my eyes glued to every action that happens thereafter.

Channel U brought options - lots of it. Korean, Taiwanese, Japanese TV shows are what they brought in to viewers and ignited a flurl of fans crazy over such shows. They initiated interactive variety shows - where filming is not done in studio, but out there - with the public.

Snap: One of the well-received variety shows that search on the streets for belle and beau.

One might argue that probably it is their lack of resources that made them do their filmings outdoor. But it definitely is a great move and a creative idea, to bring your filmings closer to the audiences. Afterall, it is the public who watch those shows.

Giving audiences a closer look at the unfortunate ones.

They started Renci Charity Show - with no attractive prizes to be won if you donated money, which the show received huge donations and stellar response. Being truthful and sincere to the audience is what I can see from them.

Heartstopping stunts by artistes in a bid to raise funds for the needy.

The merger is really an undesirable one. I believed that this is so for many other viewers who enjoyed the new option as well.

MediaCorp took over the glory of a creative and interactive channel. A channel made for viewers. Without the competition, the TV scene is back to a square one. And I believe Channel U is becoming as stagnant as Channel 8 is. Channel U is somehow being positioned as a channel for overseas shows and an occasional - one or two - locally produced shows. And all the popular hosts and artistes, local production - to Channel 8.

That aside, we dont see the spark that shaped Channel U back then. The news bulletin? Oh, repeat telecasts from Channel 8. I'm sorry, I couldnt even think of anything exciting to talk about the current Channel U - it is THAT pathetic.

What happened to those street-hunting shows for babes, hunks, themed personalities? What happened to those talkshows/current affair shows that bare no taboos about sensitive topics? What happened to those interesting and no doubt funny mini-dramas and sitcoms?

To sum up the current TV scene? Boring. To. The. Very. Core. Of. Caldecott. Hill.

It is definitely saddening to see this happen.

I must say thank you to the faculty and staff of the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information for inviting me to give your convocation address. It’s a wonderful honour and a privilege for me to speak here for ten minutes without fear of contradiction, defamation or retaliation. I say this as a Singaporean and more so as a husband.

My wife is a wonderful person and perfect in every way except one. She is the editor of a magazine. She corrects people for a living. She has honed her expert skills over a quarter of a century, mostly by practising at home during conversations between her and me.

On the other hand, I am a litigator. Essentially, I spend my day telling people how wrong they are. I make my living being disagreeable.

Nevertheless, there is perfect harmony in our matrimonial home. That is because when an editor and a litigator have an argument, the one who triumphs is always the wife.

And so I want to start by giving one piece of advice to the men: when you’ve already won her heart, you don’t need to win every argument.

Marriage is considered one milestone of life. Some of you may already be married. Some of you may never be married. Some of you will be married. Some of you will enjoy the experience so much, you will be married many, many times. Good for you.

The next big milestone in your life is today: your graduation. The end of education. You’re done learning.

You’ve probably been told the big lie that “Learning is a lifelong process” and that therefore you will continue studying and taking masters’ degrees and doctorates and professorships and so on. You know the sort of people who tell you that? Teachers. Don’t you think there is some measure of conflict of interest? They are in the business of learning, after all. Where would they be without you? They need you to be repeat customers.

The good news is that they’re wrong.

The bad news is that you don’t need further education because your entire life is over. It is gone. That may come as a shock to some of you. You’re in your teens or early twenties. People may tell you that you will live to be 70, 80, 90 years old. That is your life expectancy.

I love that term: life expectancy. We all understand the term to mean the average life span of a group of people. But I’m here to talk about a bigger idea, which is what you expect from your life.

You may be very happy to know that Singapore is currently ranked as the country with the third highest life expectancy. We are behind Andorra and Japan, and tied with San Marino. It seems quite clear why people in those countries, and ours, live so long. We share one thing in common: our football teams are all hopeless. There’s very little danger of any of our citizens having their pulses raised by watching us play in the World Cup. Spectators are more likely to be lulled into a gentle and restful nap.

Singaporeans have a life expectancy of 81.8 years. Singapore men live to an average of 79.21 years, while Singapore women live more than five years longer, probably to take into account the additional time they need to spend in the bathroom.

So here you are, in your twenties, thinking that you’ll have another 40 years to go. Four decades in which to live long and prosper.

Bad news. Read the papers. There are people dropping dead when they’re 50, 40, 30 years old. Or quite possibly just after finishing their convocation. They would be very disappointed that they didn’t meet their life expectancy.

I’m here to tell you this. Forget about your life expectancy.

After all, it’s calculated based on an average. And you never, ever want to expect being average.

Revisit those expectations. You might be looking forward to working, falling in love, marrying, raising a family. You are told that, as graduates, you should expect to find a job paying so much, where your hours are so much, where your responsibilities are so much.

That is what is expected of you. And if you live up to it, it will be an awful waste.

If you expect that, you will be limiting yourself. You will be living your life according to boundaries set by average people. I have nothing against average people. But no one should aspire to be them. And you don’t need years of education by the best minds in Singapore to prepare you to be average.

What you should prepare for is mess. Life’s a mess. You are not entitled to expect anything from it. Life is not fair. Everything does not balance out in the end. Life happens, and you have no control over it. Good and bad things happen to you day by day, hour by hour, moment by moment. Your degree is a poor armour against fate.

Don’t expect anything. Erase all life expectancies. Just live. Your life is over as of today. At this point in time, you have grown as tall as you will ever be, you are physically the fittest you will ever be in your entire life and you are probably looking the best that you will ever look. This is as good as it gets. It is all downhill from here. Or up. No one knows.

What does this mean for you? It is good that your life is over.

Since your life is over, you are free. Let me tell you the many wonderful things that you can do when you are free.

The most important is this: do not work.

Work is anything that you are compelled to do. By its very nature, it is undesirable.

Work kills. The Japanese have a term “Karoshi”, which means death from overwork. That’s the most dramatic form of how work can kill. But it can also kill you in more subtle ways. If you work, then day by day, bit by bit, your soul is chipped away, disintegrating until there’s nothing left. A rock has been ground into sand and dust.

There’s a common misconception that work is necessary. You will meet people working at miserable jobs. They tell you they are “making a living”. No, they’re not. They’re dying, frittering away their fast-extinguishing lives doing things which are, at best, meaningless and, at worst, harmful.

People will tell you that work ennobles you, that work lends you a certain dignity. Work makes you free. The slogan “Arbeit macht frei” was placed at the entrances to a number of Nazi concentration camps. Utter nonsense.

Do not waste the vast majority of your life doing something you hate so that you can spend the small remainder sliver of your life in modest comfort. You may never reach that end anyway.

Resist the temptation to get a job. Instead, play. Find something you enjoy doing. Do it. Over and over again. You will become good at it for two reasons: you like it, and you do it often. Soon, that will have value in itself.

I like arguing, and I love language. So, I became a litigator. I enjoy it and I would do it for free. If I didn’t do that, I would’ve been in some other type of work that still involved writing fiction – probably a sports journalist.

So what should you do? You will find your own niche. I don’t imagine you will need to look very hard. By this time in your life, you will have a very good idea of what you will want to do. In fact, I’ll go further and say the ideal situation would be that you will not be able to stop yourself pursuing your passions. By this time you should know what your obsessions are. If you enjoy showing off your knowledge and feeling superior, you might become a teacher.

Find that pursuit that will energise you, consume you, become an obsession. Each day, you must rise with a restless enthusiasm. If you don’t, you are working.

Most of you will end up in activities which involve communication. To those of you I have a second message: be wary of the truth. I’m not asking you to speak it, or write it, for there are times when it is dangerous or impossible to do those things. The truth has a great capacity to offend and injure, and you will find that the closer you are to someone, the more care you must take to disguise or even conceal the truth. Often, there is great virtue in being evasive, or equivocating. There is also great skill. Any child can blurt out the truth, without thought to the consequences. It takes great maturity to appreciate the value of silence.

In order to be wary of the truth, you must first know it. That requires great frankness to yourself. Never fool the person in the mirror.

I have told you that your life is over, that you should not work, and that you should avoid telling the truth. I now say this to you: be hated.

It’s not as easy as it sounds. Do you know anyone who hates you? Yet every great figure who has contributed to the human race has been hated, not just by one person, but often by a great many. That hatred is so strong it has caused those great figures to be shunned, abused, murdered and in one famous instance, nailed to a cross.

One does not have to be evil to be hated. In fact, it’s often the case that one is hated precisely because one is trying to do right by one’s own convictions. It is far too easy to be liked, one merely has to be accommodating and hold no strong convictions. Then one will gravitate towards the centre and settle into the average. That cannot be your role. There are a great many bad people in the world, and if you are not offending them, you must be bad yourself. Popularity is a sure sign that you are doing something wrong.

The other side of the coin is this: fall in love.

I didn’t say “be loved”. That requires too much compromise. If one changes one’s looks, personality and values, one can be loved by anyone.

Rather, I exhort you to love another human being. It may seem odd for me to tell you this. You may expect it to happen naturally, without deliberation. That is false. Modern society is anti-love. We’ve taken a microscope to everyone to bring out their flaws and shortcomings. It far easier to find a reason not to love someone, than otherwise. Rejection requires only one reason. Love requires complete acceptance. It is hard work – the only kind of work that I find palatable.

Loving someone has great benefits. There is admiration, learning, attraction and something which, for the want of a better word, we call happiness. In loving someone, we become inspired to better ourselves in every way. We learn the truth worthlessness of material things. We celebrate being human. Loving is good for the soul.

Loving someone is therefore very important, and it is also important to choose the right person. Despite popular culture, love doesn’t happen by chance, at first sight, across a crowded dance floor. It grows slowly, sinking roots first before branching and blossoming. It is not a silly weed, but a mighty tree that weathers every storm.
You will find, that when you have someone to love, that the face is less important than the brain, and the body is less important than the heart.

You will also find that it is no great tragedy if your love is not reciprocated. You are not doing it to be loved back. Its value is to inspire you.

Finally, you will find that there is no half-measure when it comes to loving someone. You either don’t, or you do with every cell in your body, completely and utterly, without reservation or apology. It consumes you, and you are reborn, all the better for it.

Don’t work. Avoid telling the truth. Be hated. Love someone.

孙子每个周末来看她儿女关心她
但是她还是很不放心

担心生意能延续吗

今年的母亲节少了老伴
她过得有点不习惯

Grandpa passed away.

What he's left - generations.
And a whole lot of descendants who'll miss him.

He loves to watch WWE.
He loves pastries that my Mom made for him.
He likes to smoke.
He cares for his grandchildren.

And we'll miss him deeply.

It's heartwrenching, to see his struggle during his last few stages of his life.

And Grandma would be alone from now.
Afterall, they've been together for more than 60 years.
It'll be tough for her to get used to the loneliness.

Last night with Grandpa tonight.
Tomorrow, we'll all walk with him the last journey here.

It's the time again to give my life in 2009 a good sum-up. I'd reckon that I'll have lesser to sum up being that the later half of the 2009 year - I'm serving NS. Without further ado, I'll start the lookback!

Jan 2009 - Mar 2009

After the fulfilling trip back from Beijing that put a significant mark on my polytechnic schooldays, I continued on with my Final-Year Project in NYP. Not forgetting that I did a wonderful photoshoot with Joshua (although the shoot attracted some negative or rather malicious comment, but I still think that as an amateur photographer, using a compact camera to shoot, the photos did turn out pretty decent. And I still think Joshua makes a good model being really committed and photogenic.)

I also started to worry about money issues and furthering my studies. Then it was CNY! Not soon after, my role as a student in NYP ended. It was filled with memories, good and bad. It's endless job hunting, military checkup for NS and some fair share of fun following the release of my last semester results.

Apr 2009 - Jun 2009

Meetups with schoolmates amidst our busy working schedule. Then life got pretty bland, slacking and working. Reminisced the times in Beijing as well. Had a fair share of meetups in May, and a great deal of emo-ing as well (as always!). Then it was Mother's Day and Vesak Day, following the news of my enlistment and I've started Twitter-ing! Graduation Day on 28th May.

Switched to a new job in June - IRAS, thanks to Xinyi. Then it was endless working and eating.

Jul 2009 - Sep 2009

Enjoyment in between work would definitely be me watching dramas. My Queen or 败犬女王 made me a total fanboy again. Oh and also, movies! Lots of it! Having missed Sun Yanzi's concert and life is back to the same ol' bland - well what else could a pre-enlistee do right? Pre-NS syndrome started to take effect on me as well!

August soon came, and surprisingly, I wasnt really looking forward to it. Birthday was well spent though - with friends. Then I looked back into life and mourned the death of youth, every second. Quitted IRAS on late August to give myself a break before I enlist.

September came, and time is precious when enlistment is drawing near. Did alot of things during the 2 weeks before I enlist and I thought it was fulfilling :) And not soon after, I turned officially botak.

Oct 2009 - Dec 2009

Alot of things happened while I'm at Tekong. So many things to the extent that I couldnt really write down every single thing. What I know is, its a brand new experience and although I had a tough time going through it, I enjoyed it actually.

I did become quite emotional while staying in there, but managed to catch a breather when I'm out. But as what my sergeants say, tough times dont last, tough man do.. Everything soon came to an end and I've POP-ed :D Enjoyable times spent with friends during my block leave. Somehow, from time to time, I did lookback - way back. Then it was Christmas, which means shopping!

The last few days of Year 2009 was spent in camp attending my driver's course with friends like Weifeng, Weixiang, Wenhao, 2 Yankees (Zhen Yang & Yong Xiang), Sean and Jason Ong. I wouldnt have enjoyed my stay there without them! :)

New Year's Eve was spent with family. Afterall, I owed them one - last year (2008). And it definitely is cosy spending your time with your family, your loved ones :)

The word to sum up year 2009, it would be - Rough.

It wasnt smooth-sailing at all, for everyone, in Year 2009. There were LOTS of ups and downs. But still, 2009 will be part of my memory - a life changing one.

I was thinking about this sometime during my boring driving lectures...

I've made so many friends online. Some worth a friendship, some not.
But those online relationships didnt forged into a real one.
I was thinking, what if, someday, I unfortunately died?
Would they even know? Would they even be notified? Would they even be upset or have an emotional reaction about it?

The thing is, I've met so many people online. Some dont even know my name, or seen my photo. Would they even care about me? Or will these relationship just become a memory of afew kilobytes?

(Oh yeah, I dont give a damn whether or not you say that NUM Tees are overrated. I know that their taglines are cheesy, but the reason I get my NUM tees is that it fits me well and I like their cutting. Plus, the material is better.)

Wake up call: My funds are depleting. And yet, I'm still in a mad shopping mood. iPod Touch, Wii, Jeans, Shorts, Sneakers and Jackets (and DSLR!!!). OMG!

Had a fun BBQ session with my section mates @ Chengbo's gorgeous condominium in the East, just beside East Coast Park, where we're able to have a good view of the sea. The whole place looks freaking atas and I'm glad that I have such a friend. (HAHAHAHA! BITCH!) Will definitely visit his house more often in the future.

Completing the gruelling 24km route march without much progressive training was a proud achievement. It's all in the mind. You're stronger than what you actually think you'll be. I'll choose what's best for me from now on.

I wont forget the first day I stepped into Rocky Hill, Quebec Coy. And now, its closer to the end of my BMTC journey. I wont know if I'm able to go back there in the future, but that place will forever be in my mind. I would have photographed everything there down, if not for the ban.

I'll miss Quebec Coy, my bunk, my bed, my platoon mates and the countless enjoyable times we've had.

3 months have passed so fast, that I dont even know it has already passed.

It has been a long time since I've had a decent blog post! Ones that tells you what's going on in my life. With the introduction of Twitter and Twitpic, I've become lazier and lazier to blog and upload photos. So this time, I'm gonna get that lazy bug outta me and blog!

Now that all the high-key events are over, I'm only left with IPPT and Route Marches to conquer. As much as I would like to conquer SOC, I think focusing on the first 2 would be much beneficial for me. I'm sorry, SOC's just not my forte.

Whether or not am I heading to command school, it doesnt quite matter anymore. Cos I know I wouldnt be happy over there either. So whatever happens, I'm gonna take it on my stride. Shit do happens and if it does, I'm gonna just thrust my thumb out and suck it. Hurhur.

I dont feel accomplished, at this point of time. Demoralised I am, I think that I fail at whatever I do. And while dwelling on self-pity, I dont initiate and do something about it.

Yeah, my life was kinda on that note recently.

But on a brighter side, I'll be POP-ing in almost half a month's time! After that would be my block leave (hopefully longer)! And then would be the festive season! Cant wait! :D

Alright, I gotta book-in soon. I hope things will go well for me.

I've become dreadful of my stay in Tekong. Because nothing seemed smooth sailing right after field camp. Nothing at all. With stress piling up every week, it's hard to keep your mind thinking positive. Not when your bunkmates are so demoralizing, not when your health condition suck.

I miss home. I miss those days where I call the shots, I dictate what I want. With only a mere 1 and a half days of freedom, you cant really push yourself ahead of the week.

Let's hope everything changes for the better.

Now that field camp is finished, I'm a slight bit light-hearted. Usual recruit life goes on.

Having said that, the uncertainty that comes along makes you worry at the same time.

I miss civilian life. I miss home.

Field camp week. Of all times, I fell sick just before field camp. I'm torn apart, whether to still take part in field camp despite being weak and might not able to take the training, or to miss this field camp and join the next one with different people, different demands.

How I wish I could just stay home to recuperate and throw away all these worries that I have. Just wanna have Mom and Dad looking after me and be totally comfortable and spoilt for this once. Reality is, that rigid system and strict regimentation is a total hassle.

I hope that this week would be smooth-sailing for me.

I'm back from Pulau Tekong! For those who are uninformed, I'm allocated to BMTC Sch 1, Rocky Hill Camp, Quebec COY. Life's been fine inside there, just that worried about my physical fitness level not being able to cope to their expectations. Otherwise, the rest have been smooth-sailing.

Able to bookout for the first week as its the Hari Raya holiday. But gotta be confined for the coming 2 weeks. Booking in soon :(

The peaceful 2-week holidays ended with an abrupt twist. A heated argument with parents proved once again that they are never really bothered. Apparently the son's enlistment is tomorrow, and they can dilly dally their way till late night before realising that their son is really enlisting tomorrow. Then claimed its my fault and they shall not send me off tomorrow.

Whatever. With my dad - brutally conservative (I'm not sure if its the right way to describe him) and persistent. With my mom - follows totally what my dad says. No matter how much I try to say I love them, there's always something trying to justify that its not really that way.

Nothing could change when the head of the family does not change.

Grandpa's cancer worsened. The last few stages of his life, and yet as a grandson, I gotta serve the nation. But I wont forget what he said to me, "Dont be the first as people will envy, dont be the last as people will loathe."

I hope that Grandpa could pull it together. But whatever happens, I'll always remember him. His struggle through life, he lived his life - to the fullest. I hope he has no regrets.

I'm leaving for the island - in a few hours time. To a beginning without much optimism.

To the past 20 years, it's been an amazing ride. I'm quite a lucky one.

Pre-NS days

And now, a lookback at my shortlived, carefree and happy 2 weeks before my NS enlistment starts on September 14th. On most of the days, I've been doing the usual morning jogs and having KFC porridge breakfast.

August 31st Monday
Facial Spa at Celmonze (I think spelled this way) with Daphne. Quite a posh spa salon and the treatment were great! Love that place, I did it for free as its my birthday month's offer! It actually costs freakin' $108 for one treatment!

Then went to Makeover Inc. for a free photoshoot. Modelled for some photos and chose the nice ones. Well, I thought it's kinda pricey for their services and actually have regretted buying more of their services. Well, dont mention about it.

Had Manhattan Fish Market with Daphne at PS. Then sneaked into the R21 theatre to catch Bruno. Dont quite enjoy the movie though.

September 1st Tuesday
Just a casual evening at the library. Rainy day. Alone.

September 2nd Wednesday
Met Junda for a gruelling swimming crash course. The 20 years old me couldnt even fucking swim. And after 4 hours of endless torture (me torturing Junda fyi), I finally got sunburnt and still dont know how to swim. Failure. Slight improvements though :)

Treated Junda to Pizza Hut for his kind favour.

September 3rd Thursday
Met Remes up for a game of badminton with his girlfriend and his buddy Edwin. Was seriously sunburnt and couldnt really enjoy the game cause wasnt quite close with them. But kinda appreciate the company though.

September 4th Friday
Met Maureen up at her workplace. She slimmed down quite abit and looked much more decent from the last time I saw her (oops!). Evening spent with XY watching "I love you, Beth Cooper" at Cineleisure. Quite an okay show :)

September 5th Saturday
The severely sunburnt me went to Bugis to meet the girls - Eve, Grace, Miaohua, Daphne, Kelly for the very last time before my enlistment. Had dinner at some random, overpriced, sucky Ramen place then shopping and slacking around Bugis. Bought a superman tee at sale price.

September 6th Sunday
Out to get myself a new pair of specs and get my eyes tested. Following that met Daphne for dinner at Woodlands :)

September 7th Monday
Out with Weizong to have Mega McSpicy followed by watching Year One at Woodlands Causeway Point. Slacked at Starbucks thereafter, talking about NS experiences.

September 8th Tuesday
Met up with Kenneth (LONG TIME NO SEE) at Orchard and had a nice lunch with him. Walked around Orchard talking about what happened in the past, our plans in the future and what not. Really nice time catching up with him. Dinner at Gelare.

September 9th Wednesday
Went KBOX with Henry. He's enlisting on the Sept 14 to the CMPB. Had a crazy time ktv-ing with him as I, as usual, went out of key. And he still dominates the microphone obviously. Dinner was at Pepper Lunch!

September 10th Thursday
Met up with Daphne at Orchard to catch The Time Traveller's Wife. Nice movie!

September 11th Friday
Went to collect my spectacles, my photoshoot photos and met up with Kelvin Chan and walked around COMEX. Had dinner at Donut Factory.

September 12th Saturday
Whole day spent settling my StarHub mobile line issues. Got a new Nokia E51 Non-camera phone. Had a great dinner with family. Thanks Mom and Dad! :)

Moving on, it will be the dreaded NS. And no matter how many whinings I might have for NS, I still need to serve the nation. Alot of complications and issues would be raised when I'm in there. One's lifestyle, habits, character and what not will be exposed to the maximum. Whether or not will I excel is one question, but to survive is another.

So an optimist I shall be. I need that initial determination I used to have and to leverage upon it. No point whining anymore.

It's August again. Frankly speaking, I wasnt really that excited like the past years for my birthday. Reason being that I've completed the 2nd decade of my life and I hate that. I hate moving forward yet looking back. But the day still came..

August 7th

Took time off from IRAS to enjoy the day with Daphne for a pre-Birthday celebration @ Vivocity. Went to Sushi Tei for dinner and we managed to get window seats where we enjoy the view of the Vivocity's Promenade. Thereby having Paper Hotpot, Curry Rice and some other Japanese dishes. After that went roaming around Vivocity.

August 8th

Met up with Henry, Junda and Mabel. (ages since I've last seen her) Had a meal at Marina Square's Imperial Treasure then Starbucks for chat. Mabel's boyfriend then send us back by car and managed to catch a movie with Junda - UP.

After the movie was another chat session with Mabel & Junda till 2am. Somehow made me miss those days where we gossiped till morning, but in my mind I seriously think we've grew distant and what holds us back is that little bond.

August 9th

Went to Grandma's house and celebrated Aunt's birthday by having KFC & Pizza Hut feast! Then went down to Bugis to meet Johnny, Eve, Grace, Kelly, Miao Hua, Daphne for dinner. Johnny slimmed down quite alot during his BMT and I'm seriously envious of him!

Then headed to Illuma and back to Parco Bugis. Bought my 2nd Havaianas Flipflops. Endless camwhoring and I still love Singapore despite ignoring the Pledge Moment and NDP. Took train home.

I dont feel particularly meaningful for birthday this year. As much as I tried to make every birthday of mine extra special, I feel that I'm celebrating for the sake of celebrating it. I dont know. It's not a happy year for me. Not when National Service is closing in.

But I'll still try to walk, even run, if I have the energy to. Sometimes, you hate to grow up, you want everything to stop, because you are contented with the things you have now.

When you realize that the whole world is running faster than you could imagine..

To sum up this entry, thanks to all those who've wished me Happy Birthday :) And yes, I'm happy and contented still.
